Hmmm, is Yilmaz herself indentured, or merely... susceptible?

I think merely susceptible. If you have a tank-girl parent or grandparent, it’s probably a gimme. Past that, declining susceptibility.

I think of it like the predispositive ability to hear a certain tone, but your reaction to it is to lose full control of your will for as long as the operator is there and reinforcing. A tank girl of course is low on free will as it is, but the extra weakness is designed in to make sure they are unable to break free—an addition after the Caballardo, probably. Dardana is defective on both counts and the victim of massive abuse, so she’s transitionary between citizen and tank girl, able to reroute her own motives and requiring heavy-handed use of the voice to control her. The “real” Scyros and the Investor client are partially susceptible, *most especially* when they are not expecting it.

The Scyros women have honed their talents to become much more graceful and sneaky about it; that poor restaurant hostess from Olava, for instance, was simply seduced out of the place; Olava went in willing but once there she was under total control anyway.

There’s probably people without post-240 or so clone DNA in them, but I’ll bet 80% of the born population has some weakness. It makes you wonder if the Council knows….

Ah, I'm connecting the dots now with (Spoilers for part 8) her commenting on how everyone has some clone DNA these days.
