Another splendiferous book from Raconteur Press, Goblin Souk heads back to the Middle East, or to Middle East-adjacent dream places, where legend and rumor and magic rule.
The last story in this book, with the best illustration according to me, is “The Tale of Ibrahim and the Ghoul’s Grandmother,” which could be set anywhere and anywhen, but for those who pay attention around here, you may begin to say, “Wait a minute, I know this place.”
Sometime well after the Caballardo and sometime long before Dardana Fenek, a legendary place north of the Great Thalassa exists: Penesthelia. So we have this market tale, old long before our grandfather’s grandfather’s days, and we say, “Is it true? Did it happen?”
To which I say, O Best Beloved, “It indeed happened, just so.”
